Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

A world filled with explosions, assassinations and untold secrets, the mafia is not something to be lightly dealt within the manga series, Katekyo Hitman REBORN! (lit. Home Tutor Hitman Reborn!), also known as REBORN!, has gained an amazing popularity since April 2004. The story and art is by the amazing Akira Amano and published in the Weekly Shonen Jump for everyone to read the day to day life of Tsuna and his home tutor, Reborn, who teaches him the ways to become the next boss of the powerful Vongola mafia family. This series was later adapted into an anime at October 2006.

         

Tsunayoshi "Tsuna" Sawada has lived his entire life in Japan known as loser Tsuna. Known for his terrible grades, and horrible athletics, Tsuna also suffers socially having zero chances at the school idol, Kyoko. Thinking all hope is lost, his mother finds him a tutor, Reborn, who is unexpectedly an infant assassin sent by the ninth generation Vongola boss to train Tsuna as the tenth successor of the family. A mix of comedy and action, Reborn brings Tsuna into the mafia underworld where a whole other adventure awaits with dodging bullets and a colorful cast!

Like any mainstream series, the fandom has become so expansive to the point that they have created their own lingo to suit their purposes. Here are a few must-know terms before skimming through the site:

Canon: a term used in fiction when referring to a scenario that is considered to be "official" material produced by the original author or creator of a series.

Daily Life Arc: the introductory arc of the series. It runs from vol.01-08

Future Arc: the 4th story arc where Tsuna-tachi are brought into the future. It runs from vol.17-onwards. Also known as the TYL!Arc

KHR: an abbreviation for Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

Kokuyo Arc: The 2nd story arc where Mukuro and his gang are introduced. It runs from vol.08-10

Tsuna-tachi: a term used to refer to Tsunayoshi Sawada, the protagonist of the series, and his circle friends

TYL: an abbreviation for Ten Years Later

Varia Arc: the 3rd story arc where the Varia assassination squad is introduced. It runs from vol.10-17

Vongola: a strongest and most powerful mafia family in the KHR!universe. Also Italian for clam. Vongole is the plural form.

Vongola Guardians: the six guardians who are deemed most worthy to protect the Vongola boss. They are separated by weather alignments that suit their personality; Storm, Rain, Sun, Lightning, Cloud and Mist. The boss is known to represent the Sky.

PERSONAL REVIEW

I began reading the series due to growing popularity of the manga. Wanting to get into it before it got too overrated, my sister and I decided to read the first couple of chapters in OneManga. I wasn't too excited about the series until the Kokuyo Arc though. As much as I miss the crack!scenes now, if a Shonen had no fighting scenes or a good deal of character development I would probably give up on it sooner or later. Then Mukuro showed up and the manga finally made the cut on my favorite manga list. You could say vol. 8 is where the real fun truly starts.
