We never hear of Mukuro’s past out of his own mouth, instead Tsuna and Reborn hear it from his friends, Ken and Chikusa.

Every child deserves the warmth of a good home and most of all a loving family. Mukuro never had this chance. Born into a world of torture and cruelty, never knowing the love of a family, it is no wonder Mukuro grew up so twisted and vile.

         

The Estraneo Family was known in the mafia for their ability to create special weapons. To create such weapons and experiment them on on humans, the Estraneos were soon deemed by society as inhumane and were persecuted by other mafia families. It could only escalate now. The adults began using the children as subjects for their experiments in order to defend the family name. Mukuro was one of these many unfortunate children.

As a child he was known to be one of the quiet ones—even now he is still quite the anti-social teen. Mukuro likely learned early on that speaking out with no power would help no one, so he waited for the opportune moment. Children who grow up in abusive environments like him are known for their lack of trust. It is reasonable to see that Mukuro took it upon himself to grow up faster in an emotional sense.

His hatred could only grow as more and more of his friends died day by day. After receiving the power of “The Six Paths of Rebirth” by having his right eye transplanted with a power-enhanced one he killed all the Estraneo adults that did him harm and was joined by Ken Joshima and Chikusa Kakimoto when he had escaped the labs. The three boys are the only known survivors of the incident.

         

Mukuro’s first taste of humanity was evil everywhere he went. Not only did his “family” cause him harm, the world outside was out to kill him only because of his association with the Estraneo. He learned the ways of deceit and even murdered a second mafia family in northern Italy, managing to pin the blame on a man named, Lancia. He slipped through by being taken in as an orphan and used his newly found techniques to make one of their own members murder the others. Mukuro hates the world for what it has done to him and his friends and will make everyone suffer for it.
