Passive Aggressive

Upon the appearance of his older self, we can all agree that Mukuro has become stronger like the rest of the cast. Much stronger. From ten year gap from the present to the future world, it seems not only have there been personality changes, but also their fighting styles have evolved and Mukuro is no exception to this.

The majority of battles depend on newly developed weapons so cleverly called, “box weapons” that can only be opened with rings lit by you very own “dying will-flame.” Box weapons are modeled after living things; unleashing powerful creatures (think Pokemon). Categorized into seven different attributes (sky, storm, rain, sun, lightning, mist & cloud), boxes can only be opened with their compatible ring and the user’s attributed flame. A flame can only emit from a user’s resolution, and of course it’s been established Mukuro’s resolution is quite strong since he can use the Possession Bullet, so this mean he also has the ability to light a ring.

Being the Mist Guardian, Mukuro’s flame alignment is mist. From his TYL (ten years later) debut, we can be assured he has a single box weapon and two rings. Not just any rings, but two of the six remaining Hell Rings in the world. Hell Rings are rated 5 stars high, according to Byakuran.

Vol.22 Ch.216
Shouichi Irie Says:
“Those who inherit its power will have formidable and vicious power bestowed upon them. It’s a hearsay that their battle capabilities will increase several times over. Furthermore a contract with a Hell Ring must be made to release its power. In other words…allowing the Hell Ring to consume oneself.”

While I’m crossing my fingers Mukuro won’t transform into a monstrosity like Genkishi had, but it will probably become the inevitable. Due to the counterpart box weapon of his Hell Rings being destroyed by Byakuran during their unseen epic battle, we can’t be too sure of what’s inside. Even without the boxes, it seems the Hell Rings have a power of their own as seen in chapter 274, where Mukuro releases a strange power from the ring. Though Mukuro had lost his previous box weapon, he has gained access to a new box weapon and the Vongola Mist Ring, courtesy of Chrome.

Vongola Mist Owl:
Originally Chrome’s box weapon. Looks very similar to her Gufo della Nebbia (Mist Owl), but equipped with armor.

Abilities
Cambio Forma: Demon Spade's Evil Lens: The owl transforms into three separate lenses. It allows one to see through the most powerful illusions and scan the enemy for its identity and weaknesses.

The owl, also known as Gufo della Foschia (Mist Owl) had originated as Glo Xinia’s box weapon, originally named as Gufo della Pioggia (Rain Owl). Due to Mukuro possessing it the rain attribute had changed into mist. Nicknamed Mukuro by Chrome, Mukuro had possessed “Mukuro” during his fake defeat against Glo Xinia in the future, and turned it against Glo Xinia when he supported the present day Chrome in battle. It still confuses me as to how he could possess it seeing as how his body must be shot by the Possession Bullet in order to fully take over the owl. The only logical explanation I have was that he used the Deva Realm ability, but it still strikes me as odd.

In chapter 278 Tsuna and the rest of his guardian, this includes Mukuro, gains an upgrade on their Vongola rings. Apparently the form we saw in the beginning of the Varia Arc were just temporary forms. Now that Vongola Primo, Giotto, has revealed the true form of the rings we can only await to see their new powers.
